The plank is one of the best ever exercises for toning the abdomen.

This is because the abdominal muscles are toned in a lengthen position.  For abdominal toning, most people do loads of crunches which will tone the abs but in a shortened position.  This can lead to an imbalance of strength, poor posture, a compromised spine and reduced breath capacity.

The plank on the other hand keeps the body in a great alignment while toning many muscles simultaneously. It can easily be modified for beginners or advanced students.
