You can’t avoid it any more…it’s been on the news, in the papers and all over the web.

To be healthy, you need to cut down your consumption of sugar (in fact all forms of carbohydrate).

If you have grown up eating sugary foods, eliminating any form of treats is tough. With a little help however there is a way to have your ‘healthy cake’ and eat it.

To help out, I will continue to create and make zero grain, low sugar desserts that are packed with healthy ingredients.

Below is my latest raw chocolate creation. We showcased it at the last raw choc evening at the Dojiva Studio. It’s gluten free, grain free and very low in sugar. Just click on the link below to open a pdf document. In the same raw choc evening, we also sampled white chocolate and there’s a recipe on the same document.

How do you keep sugar under 10% and still make chocolate treats taste amazing?

Simple, just be sure to include the right amount of non-toxic natural sugar alternatives – my favourites are Luo Han Guo and Sweetleaf Stevia.

In the above recipe, I am also experimenting with Yacon syrup. On the glycemic index it only registers as 1. As a marker, honey, agave, maple syrup are all around 55, coconut palm sugar is 35, table sugar about 70 and white potatoes around 80!

Even low glycemic index sugars should be kept to a minimum and due to the affect on your body, sugary foods should never be consumed on there own (e.g. fizzy drinks, fruit juice). That is why this recipe has lots of coconut oil and nuts, which means you get healthy, balancing fats in the every bite!
