If you keep your exercise routine varied, you maintain interest and are therefore more likely to stick to it.  Repeating the same programme, week in – week out is boring for you and your body! Your body loves change and responds well to new challenges.

In this week’s video I take a couple of classic upper body toning exercises but use a stretch band rather than dumb-bells.

We all need to keep strong, now and throughout life. Resistance training with a band is a fun and effective way of getting your quota of strength for this week.  If you don’t have a band right now, order one online or visit a local sports shop and return to this video the day it arrives! Try to get a long band (2 or 3 metres in length and of a medium intensity).

It’s time to take the symmetry out of exercise

Traditionally, exercise is linear and two dimensional, often with only one body part in isolation.

Judith Aston sees things differently…that the human body should move in:

Ascending and descending, asymmetrical, three dimensional spirals

And if you stop for a moment and think about it, it makes complete sense. You just need to take a closer look at nature…do you see any straight lines in a leaf, a branch or the wing of a butterfly? Look at any bones, muscles or organs of the human body…any corners or straight edges? Of course not.

And what about climbing a tree or running? These movements embrace the natural three dimensionality of human movement.  All of your exercises should adopt this approach. Your exercise mat might be linear, but your body isn’t!

Try this routine out and let me know how you get on with it. You can leave a comment below the video.

Keep strong, take care

Thanks Danny
