Yogi’s have been greeting the morning light with the sun salutation for thousands of years.

However this lovely sequence of exercises can be enjoyed by anybody at any time of the day.

What I like about this sequence is that it challenges and brings about:

Upper body weight bearing and therefore strength
Spinal flexibility
Leg stretching
Mindful Breathing
Balance

As you practice this sequence, what I want you to focus on is your fluidity.  It’s not just that we are flowing between the individual movements but that each position has fluidity within it.  The whole routine is slow and smooth and at no point should your body be static.

For this adaptation of the sun salutation I have used movement concepts from Aston Kinetics. Teachings from Judith Aston form the foundation of much I what I teach. Thanks Judith, it’s great to bring Aston movement concepts into yoga, Pilates, and daily life!

Please try this sequence out when you have a few minutes.   It does have some more challenging elements, so feel free to adapt as necessary.  If your muscles are a little cold or you’re feeling stiff today, here is a quick warm up to get you started.

Take care

Thanks Danny
