If you do all 3 movement components of the Restore Your Body Programme, then at the end of the week, you will have spent a total of 2 hours of structured exercise (add an hour to that if you include time for relaxation).

This is what I call formal exercise and for the health and safety of your body, it’s important to train with good alignment and body awareness.

But what about non exercise movement?

If you are awake 16 hours a day, 7 days a week then you have 112 hours of non formal movement (way more than 2 hours)!  During this time I encourage you to be aware of your body and to move about your day with consciousness and flow.

So, good body mechanics and conscious movement in daily life will have far more impact on the health of your body than the formal exercise mentioned above.

Quick question…how is your posture right now?

Did you adjust to be more optimal. This is good. You have become conscious of your body and made a change. That’s a metaphor for this whole programme!

Aim to keep good alignment as you finish this write up. You can then play the video and join in.

I have talked before about the Aston Kinetics concept of asymmetry.  Basically there is nothing symmetrical about your body, so why try and move with symmetry? And this notion doesn’t just apply to using weights, practising yoga or doing Pilates.  When you stand to brush your teeth or clean up your kitchen, brush your hair, shave etc, etc, a parallel stance will eventually lead to back ache.

If you stagger your stance so that one foot is forward or raised, then you take out the symmetry and your body will thank you for it.

Please watch this week’s video, then try out a new stance as you go about your day.

Take care

Thanks

Danny
