As part of a varied and balanced regime of fitness you need to include strength training.
Strength work is not just for athletes but for everyone who wants a supportive body in daily life.
You can improve your strength at any age although I advise seeing a trainer if you have an injury or are new to exercise.
When strength training is performed slowly it can help achieve the following:
– An increase in lean tissue (muscle) or atleast a prevention of muscle loss
– Reduce fat
– Increase bone mass to guard against osteoporosis
– Engage super-fast twitch muscle fibres that increase human growth hormone (anti-ageing)
– Heart and blood pressure health
Also on an emotional level, a stronger body can help you feel empowered and more confident.
To enjoy these benefits you could use body weight exercises or dumb-bells and do 5 to 8 exercises performed to a high intensity is best.
However, in this week’s video I offer a mini routine of 3 exercises that do not require equipment. That means you can try it now!
It is best to be warmed up first. Click here for a short warm up video.
Many thanks
Take care Danny
